2016/

As a prelude to the brand’s future launch next year, Creative Director Teruhiro Yanagihara, Co-Directors Scholten & Baijings, participating designers and the artisans of Arita gathered together at the Milan Salone to introduce the international press to the 2016/ project. For three consecutive days breakfast was served to a gathering of journalists and media in the interior courtyard of the Rossana Orlandi Gallery.

While the international press enjoyed breakfast served on Aritaware porcelain, we introduced them to the history of Aritaware and Arita town and gave a first insight into the collaboration between the 16 designers and Arita potteries. The guests from all over the world were especially keen to hear stories of the small village of Arita in Saga Prefecture, its significance in the production of porcelain and its long and interesting history.

We presented a small exhibition at Gallery Rossana Orlandi that showcased historical pieces of Aritaware made 300 - 400 years ago alongside contemporary pieces of Aritaware and various products designed by the 16 participating designers. The exhibition gave a snapshot of the 2016/ project as it currently stands whilst also illustrating the history of Aritaware and our vision for its future.
